The Chevy Colorado is a pickup of the brand Chevrolet. Under the model name Canyon an identical model of the brand GMC is marketed. In South America, the model is marketed under the name of its predecessor S-10.
Chevy Colorado and the twin GMC Canyon – mid-size pick-up cars produced by the US General Motors company since 2004. They were introduced as successors to the Chevrolet S-10 and GMC Sonomy. The model is available in 2- and 4-door versions, with short (Regular Cab) and extended (Extended Cab) wheelbase. The drive used petrol engines R4, R5 and V8 with a capacity of 2.8 – 5.3 liters and a maximum power of 177 – 304 hp. Power is transferred to the rear axle (optional AWD) via a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission.
Since its introduction in 2004, it replaces the S10 as a compact pickup in the American Chevrolet model family. The Chevrolet Colorado is based on the GMT355 platform, which it shares with the identical GMC Canyon and the Isuzu D-Max, and on which also builds the GMT345 platform of the Hummer H3.
Powered by a 2.8-liter, 4-cylinder, 128 kW (175 hp) in-line engine, or the optional 3.5-l, 5-cylinder, 162 kW (220 hp), the “Chevy Colorado” is the Inferior in performance and pulling ability (about 2000 kg), but available as a two-door regular cab. In addition, the four-door Extended Cab and Crew Cab variants are available. All models are available with both rear and four-wheel drive, as well as with manual transmission and automatic transmission.
These frame cars offer in three versions of a cabin with two variants of a wheelbase and an actuator on all or only rear wheels. The standard for virtually all cars in the series is the 4-cylinder engine Vortec 2800 (2.8 liters, 175 hp). By order, install a 5-cylinder inline Vortec 3500 (3.5 l, 220 hp). Both gasoline units are equipped with a distributed sequential fuel injection system.
They have two camshafts, and the drive shaft of the exhaust valves is equipped with a system for regulating the gas distribution stages. The gearbox is a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. The front suspension is independent of screw springs or torsion (for variants 4×4), rear – dependent on semi-elliptic springs. Brake system with hydraulic drive and vacuum amplifier, front wheel disc drives. The length of the body with a regular and extended cabin is 1.55 m, with a double one 1.85 m. The second generation of Chevy Colorado was featured at the 2011 Auto Show in Bangkok. The car is sold in Brazil under the name Chevrolet S-10. Pickups are equipped with gasoline 2.4 L Flexpower P4 and diesel 2.5 L Duramax P4 163 hp (380 Nm) and 2.8 liters Duramax P4 200 hp (441 Nm).
At the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2013, the third-generation Chevrolet Colorado was introduced for the Mon. Of America. The car is equipped with gasoline 2.5 l Ecotec (LCV) P4 with power of 193 hp (249 Nm) and a 3.6 L High Feature (LFX) V6 power of 305 hp (366 Nm).
There was no change in the design of medium-sized Colorado pickups. These frame cars are offered in three cab versions with two wheelbase variants and a drive for all or only the rear wheels.
